The study of aquatic Oligochaeta in freshwaters in Serbia represents acontribution to the development of the entire oligochaetan fauna inventory of Serbia. The investigation included ten river basins that cover the area south of the DanubeRiver, including the stretch of the Danube that flows through Serbia. In total, 61 taxa from nine families were recorded and 56 taxa were identified tothe species level. One genus and eleven species were noted for the first time in therunning waters of Serbia: Achaeta sp., Bothrioneurum vejdovskyanum, Chaetogasterlangi, Cognettia sphagnetorum, Enchytraeus buchholzi, E. christenseni, Henleaventriculosa, Marionina argentea, Potamothrix danubialis, P. heuscheri, P.moldaviensis, and Vejdovskyella intermedia. The majority of the identified species are frequent and cosmopolitan. In terms ofthe species richness, the most dominant families were Tubificidae and Naidiae and theywere recorded in all investigated river basins. The highest species richness wasobserved in the Danube catchment area (37 species), followed by the Zapadna Morava,Ibar, and Kolubara basins (27, 24, and 23 species, respectively), while the lowest wasrecorded in the channels of the Belgrade region (10 species). The composition of theoligochaetan community showed a clear pattern – lower diversity in tributaries, higherdiversity in the main flow. The most frequent species in Oligochaeta assemblages was Limnodrilushoffmeisteri (F=0,51), but Stilodrilus heringianus also showed a significant occurrence(F=0,33). Two genus and ten species were recorded at only one locality each withfrequency of F=0,004 (Acheta sp., Fridericia sp., Chaetogaster diaphanus, Ch. limnaei,Dero dorsalis, Nais simplex, Uncinais uncinata, Vejdovskyella intermedia, Potamothrixheuscheri, Spirosperma ferox, Cognettia sphagnetorum and Rhynchelmis limosella)...
